SPP Pumps After Sales Service

SPP Pumps products are supported by an after sales service division that provides complete global customer care in field service, planned maintenance, spares supply and regional repair centres, located near to major demand.

SPP Pumps requires the highest standards of manufacturing excellence from its facilities around the world. This is crucial to the on-going growth and development of the company. At the main manufacturing facility located in the UK, SPP Pumps set the highest standards attainable in the industry for quality and reliability.

SPP Pumps distinguishes its product split between pre-engineered standard products and fully customised equipment engineered and packaged to order. The extensive manufacturing and testing capabilities reflect this wide and diverse product range.

To ensure efficient use of production resources, an MRPII manufacturing planning system is utilised. Assembly areas are segregated into the main product groups; standard pumps, industrial fire pumps, contractors pumps and engineered products. The machine shop is planned in cell layout with individual cells specialising in types, or ranges of components. CNC machines are linked by a DNC system allowing programming to be carried out on the machine or offline.

Lean manufacturing principles ensure that SPP Pumps are always focused on continuous improvement to support their 'Right First Time' philosophy. Customers are always welcome to visit the facility, either during manufacturing or when equipment is on test.

Testing, including witness testing, of all SPP's range of pumps is performed at SPP's own extensive in-house test facility. The main test area has a 1.4 million litre test tank with a depth of 6 metres. It can test pressures up to 50 bar, flows up to 2000 l/s and powers up to 800kW at 6.6kV, 400kW at 415V and 400kW at 60Hz. Generators can be used for higher powers or voltages.

SPP are planning an exciting new development at their manufacturing site to increase the build and test facilities to cater for both the growth of the business and also the increase in size and weight of the product. SPP’s current test pit is 6m deep and has cranes with a maximum lift of 20 tonnes and a headroom of approximately 20m. Within the new development this will increase the pit depth to 12m, provide cranes with a maximum lift capacity of 60 tonnes and headroom of 35m respectively. This new development will bring great benefits to SPP, not only with the additional size and lifting capabilities but most importantly will reduce health and safety risks caused by congestion and inadequate lifting facilities. In addition, noisy engines on test will be able to be isolated more easily therefore reducing the need for ear protection.

Founded in 1875, a British Engineer bought the patent rights of the Pulsometer Pump from an American, Thomas Hall. 'The Pulsometer Engineering Company Ltd' was born. From this came the birth of the Company as it is known today.

The Company moved from London to new premises in Reading, UK and expanded rapidly.

Pulsometer Engineering joined Sigmund Pumps of Gateshead making one of the largest pump companies in Europe, known as Sigmund Pulsometer Pumps, SPP for short.

SPP acquired Henry Sykes plc adding the famous 'Sykes' pumps to its range. The Sykes facility was completely redeveloped and in 1987 all manufacturing was moved to Coleford, in the West of England, where it is today.

After a brief period of ownership by the Braithewaite Group, SPP was acquired by the TBG group in 1989 as part of Sterling Fluid Systems.

SPP was acquired by our parent company, Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL). SPP launched the Lowest Life-Cycle Cost Series pumps in October 2004 in order to match the requirements of the 21st Century Industrial & Water Utility customers. We continue to release new products like our range of ISO 5199 process pumps as well as our E- Series dewatering Pumps in 2015 and our updated range of transformer oil pumps.
