Imphal, August 01 2022: Several equipment, weapons and documents were destroyed after a major fire engulfed the CID office building located at Babupara here. Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren, who also holds the home portfolio, informed the state assembly that digitisation helped in saving important documents from the devastating fire that broke out at CID old office, Babupara here at about 2.30 am Monday. While presenting report on the fire incident in the House, CM Biren said that 75 percent of CID old office was damaged by the fire which also affected some blocks of the secretariat office and nearby CRPF barrack. He also said that fire fighters had tough time in dousing the fire. The fire destroyed some records of crime branch, technical and cybercrime but digitisation helped in saving some important documents. The fire destroyed photos of some culprits involved in criminal cases but could be newly taken as the accused/convicts are still in jail, he informed. An FIR has been registered regarding the fire but fire service official? believe that electric short circuit could be cause of the fire, Biren said, adding that the government will conduct an investigation. According to a police report, the fire erupted at about 2am on Mon day and it completely destroyed offices of CID (technical), CID (Security) and SP CID (crime branch) . Several firearms kept at SP CID (crime branch) and crime-related documents were also reduced to ashes in the inferno. Immediately after getting news of the fire, teams of Manipur fire service led by joint director (fire) Nabachandra along with seven fire tenders and portable fire pump rushed to the spot. After witnessing the intensity of the fire, four teams of fire service started dousing the fire from four sides. As the fire was so intense, six more fire tenders arrived and managed to douse the fire completely at about 3.10 am, the report said. The report further said that the fire destroyed around 70 percent of the CID office building but managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjoining old secretariat building, BSNL building and 1MR.Timely arrival of the firefighting team also helped in saving several weapons and ammunition. IGP Themthing Ngashangva, DIG Kabib K, SP Imphal West Shivakanta and OC Imphal PS also rushed to the spot soon after receiving report of the fire and assisted in controlling the blaze. * This news is as published by respected news daily at Imphal, whose name is duly marked as 'Source'.
